The cocktail party problem

The inability to understand speech in situations with background noise, is an unsolved problem. This problem is not resolved with the current generation hearing devices because hearing with these devices does not result in binaural hearing. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) one in four people will have hearing problems in 2050, and about 43% of adults, especially those with hearing loss, suffer from the cocktail party problem.

Our nature inspired solution

BeephoniX solves the cocktail party problem with a single dynamic hearing system. Our hearing system is based on the dynamic ears of bees. Our system contains a dynamic microphone and because of the realization of a superior beam former the signal/noise ratio is significantly improved.

We provide a dynamic superior microphone for hearing impaired patients. With our microphone hearing devices provide superiority over competitors in directivity and beamforming.

We will miniaturize the microphone, so it fits in a cochlear implant’s processor. Success here will open up the hearing aid market. We will solve the cocktail party problem for millions of people.

BeephoniX was founded in 2022 as a spin-off from the Radboud University Department of Biophysics, one of the front-runners in the field of directional hearing. We build upon 20+ years of research experience in the field of signal processing and our team is dedicated to advancing our patented dynamic microphone technology. Our close connection to clinical practice allows us to build hearing solutions for and together with audiologists and ENT doctors. We believe in the power of beamforming to empower and envision a world where the cocktail party problem is solved everywhere, anytime.
